This is a series of illustrated wine labels inspired by my childhood and Eastern European folk art. I grew up in a small town where almost every family made their own wine. Harvest season was filled with storytelling among the vineyard rows, followed by joyful celebrations, where freshly made grape must and homemade food brought family and neighbours together.
Visually, the labels draw from the traditional papercut art specific to Eastern Europe, an ornamental folk art often used to depict nature, animals, and scenes from rural life (frequently found in textiles and rugs). I reinterpreted these motifs with a contemporary color palette and clean, geometric shapes, creating a balance between nostalgia and modern design.
“ROD” means “fruit” or “harvest” in Romanian, symbolizing the result of hard work and nature’s abundance.
The illustrated labels tell a part of this story, celebrating the joy of harvest and winemaking.
